Class Description

Martha Graham said "dance is the hidden language of the soul", Farha's classes focus on teaching her students clean, safe technique and learning to begin expressing yourself with the liberating skill of improvisation, the dance equivalents of pronunciation and conversation. She uses detailed breakdowns and colorful imagery to make the beautiful and mysterious movements of bellydance accessible but also teaches bellydance's signature characteristics: moving TO the music, expression, improvisation, and cultural connections. These concepts and techniques are broken down resulting in a fun language class for your body! Plenty of review in the form of variations keeps practicing interesting. Classes work on a semester basis and are offered twice a year, a schedule and more information is available at www.FarhaBellydance.com. Side effects may include: narrowed waist, increased confidence, hightened body awareness, better posture, and healthy and fulfilling emotional outlet.

Farha's Bio

William Butler Yeats asked "How can we know the dancer from the dance?" Farha means "Joy" in Arabic and this is both the goal and the driving passion behind her dancing. She loves to see audiences full of smiling faces, children being her favorites for their enthusiasm, and delights in opening people's minds to the beauty and depth of this art form. Farha is also inspired by her students as they learn to control their bodies and gain new voices in her classes. She is always seeking ways to expand her knowledge and skill with a focus on Egyptian style raqs Sharki (oriental dance) and raqs baladi (dance of the countryside, the social dance from which raqs Sharki was adapted). More information about her classes and about bellydance can be found on her site, www.FarhaBellydance.com.
